Experience
As a culture, we often believe that 'negative' human emotions need to be fixed, managed, or changed—rather than experienced as part of a whole life.
Steven Hayes developed Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in the 1980s to challenge the notion that our goal in psychology should be to control and suppress distressing emotions. He argued that suppressing these feelings ultimately leads to more distress. ACT encourages people to address their distressing emotions by accepting all of their emotions as normal, honoring their thoughts and emotions without judgment, adhering to their values, and committing to their goals and actions.
I actively use ACT in my practice and have extensive experience with this method. If you are seeking support, I am here to help you embrace your emotions and work towards your goals with acceptance and commitment.
